I was riding around in my little car one day, thinking about how much I like it: even if it's not fancy and new, it gets me where I'm going and fits a lot of stuff. This led to a whole stream of consciousness about life in general, and a song was born.

With *Sweet Ride* as the title song of the new release, we needed a distinct representation for the CD cover. I started fixating on using an old red truck, and in an online search found an amazingly wonderful digital photo by Bruce Buck, which he graciously licensed to me. That cover photo gets a LOT of attention, thanks to Leslie Lee's intuitive design skills as well.

In writing this song, it occurred to me that I'd been wanting to create a song that *might* be worthy of air-play on the esteemed NPR Car Talk show, so I made sure it was funny, too. Just recently sent this out to Car Talk Plaza, and am still very eagerly awaiting word from Tom and Ray...here's hoping!!

Sweet Ride

I don't need no fancy car

Got my little hell-on-wheels

It's rusted out and can't go too far

But it's paid for, and that's got sex appeal

It's a sweet ride, it's a sweet ride

Got me a sweet, sweet ride right here

It's a sweet ride, I'll enjoy the ride

'Cuz you never know what's coming around the bend!

I don't need a fancy house

Got a sink, a table, and a bed

Big mansion just won't suit my style, no

Just need a place to lay my head

And I don't want a stuck-up man

Country boy's got all I need:

Good lovin' and he'll fix my car

Satisfaction guaranteed!

It's a sweet ride, it's a sweet ride

Got me a sweet, sweet ride 'round here

It's a sweet ride, I'll enjoy the ride

'Cuz you never know what's coming around the bend

Well I've been high and I've been low, it's the simple life for me

'Cuz you never know when the winds are gonna change

Money come and money go, the less you have the less you need

Can't take it with you in the end

I don't need no leather shoes, no, no, no

These bare feet suit me just fine

'Cuz I know I'm feeling God's green earth

And ain't that what He had in mind?

It's a sweet ride, it's a sweet ride

Got me a sweet, sweet ride round here

It's a sweet ride, let's all enjoy the ride

'Cuz you never know what's comin' around the bend...
